about
biographyReynier Ferrer (born 1979 in Havana, Cuba) is a contemporary Cuban artist living and working in Miami, Florida. He studied at the San Alejandro Academy of Fine Arts from 2000 to 2004.
Working within gestural abstraction, Ferrer investigates memory, transformation, vulnerability, and resilience through an intensely physical pictorial language. His compositions unfold as fields of tension and transformation, where matter, gesture, and intuition construct a pictorial reality that oscillates between the emergence and disappearance of forms, resisting literal representation.
His process is instinctive and materially driven. Dense passages of paint, exposed canvas, layered marks, and moments of erasure establish a shifting relationship between intention and chance. Rather than fixing a single image or narrative, his paintings remain open to ambiguity, change, and the unexpected.
Ferrer has exhibited in the United States and internationally, including Embracing the Unknown (2025), Art of the World Gallery, Houston; Disturbing Dichotomies (2024), Duque Arango Gallery; and Fragmenting the Gaze (2024), CASA MÁS, Bogotá. His work has been presented at Art Miami, Zona Maco, KIAF Seoul, and Palm Beach Modern + Contemporary.
His work is held in museum, institutional, corporate, and public art collections, including the National Museum of Fine Arts in Havana, Norwegian Cruise Line, Regent Seven Seas Cruises, and public art collections and installations in Miami, Florida. He works with Art of the World Gallery (Houston), Ascaso Gallery (Miami), and Duque Arango Gallery (Colombia).

reynier ferrer day
city of warwick, rhode island · october 5, 2011
On October 5, 2011, Scott Avedisian, Mayor of the City of Warwick, proclaimed “Reynier Ferrer Day” to celebrate Con la memoria (The Roads of Memory), the artist’s exhibition at the Warwick Museum of Art, September 28 – October 7, 2011.
The show grew out of a collaboration with his uncle, the writer Edmundo Desnoes, who sent Ferrer phrases that became the starting point for the paintings. It was made possible by the Rhode Island State Council on the Arts and the New England Festival of Ibero-American Cinema.
On that first trip to the United States, Ferrer also exhibited at Lincoln Center in New York, the Watson Institute for International Studies at Brown University and the Atrium in Providence, and was artist in residence at AS220.
